Markdown.load

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 2025

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Markdown.load ('we', 'our', or 'the extension') handles information when you use our browser extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

We do NOT collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or user accounts.

Usage Data

We do NOT collect analytics, usage statistics, or tracking data about how you use the extension.

Content Data

When you convert content, we temporarily process: the URL of the page you're converting, the HTML content of the page, and session cookies (only for authenticated services like X/Twitter and Substack). This data is processed in real-time and is NOT stored on our servers.

How We Use Information

  • Content Conversion: To convert web content into Markdown format as requested by you
  • Authentication: To access paywalled content you're already logged in to view
  • Service Delivery: To return the converted Markdown file directly to your browser

Data Storage and Retention

  • Local Storage: A processing queue is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This contains only URLs and conversion status.
  • Server Storage: We do NOT store any converted content, URLs, or user data on our servers after processing
  • Data Deletion: All local data can be cleared by uninstalling the extension

Third-Party Services

Content conversion is performed by our backend service hosted on Modal Labs. The service processes conversion requests in real-time, does not log or retain any user content, operates over encrypted HTTPS connections, and has no access to your browsing history or personal information. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Cookies and Session Data

For authenticated services (X/Twitter, Substack), the extension reads your existing session cookies to access content you're already authorized to view. These cookies are only sent to the original service domains and our conversion backend, are used exclusively for the conversion you initiated, are transmitted securely over HTTPS, and are never stored, logged, or retained.

Data Security

All communications between the extension and backend occur over encrypted HTTPS connections. Your session cookies are transmitted securely and used only for authorized content access. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect data during transmission and processing.

Your Rights

  • Access: You can view what data is stored locally by the extension in your browser's extension storage
  • Deletion: You can delete all local data by uninstalling the extension
  • Control: You have complete control over when and what content you choose to convert

Children's Privacy

Our extension is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
